I can only imagine the fortitude that Nephi must have had to be able to endure the hardships that were forced upon him from his brothers.   Pres. Erying gives a wonderful talk about the gifts of the spirits and how important it is to have the gift  of the spirit with you to be able to endure and accomplish the tasks at hand so that we can prepare the world for the second coming of the Lord and our Savior.

  1. As I have been studying the scriptures everyday for the past week I have experienced a new thought or outlook. At first when I started this journey - I thought... How great it could be to be an example, and to be a light and hopefully inspire others to be great and vice versa. But what I neglected to see was the greatness in me. That this whole earthly experience of coming to understand the spiritual and the physical and making the two come together is the whole purpose why we need the Savior in our lives. So we can experience the the touch of the masters hand to refining us. I can now see that I have been too busy looking out when instead I should be looking inward. And examining my heart.

  2. Before my walk today I downloaded the talk by Pres. Eyring that you posted a link to - and I just returned after having listened to it during my meandering... GREAT talk! A couple of powerful messages stood out to me. One was that we must recognize the power of faith in desiring to have the gift of the Holy Ghost with us - and that a distant memory of a faith-promoting experience is not sufficient. That is why diligent service, and being in the right places in our daily life is so important- to constantly be seeking and feeling faith in Jesus Christ. He also talked about pure motives, and the fact that our will needs to be in line with God's will - we must suppress our desires and surrender to his. These ideas, along with daily repentance, are what qualify us to enjoy the wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost.

Regarding your comment to this post... great insight about being influenced to examine and see your own personal growth and ability to grow more!! It's true that you can be a brighter light to others when you are authentic and genuine in your personal habits and thoughts. It is not selfish to be reflecting and working on our own heart condition! In fact it is evidence you are being influenced by the spirit... to see what Father sees in us is truly amazing.
