Day 12

“No father, no son, no mother, no daughter should get so busy
that he or she does not have time to study the scriptures and the
words of modern prophets. None of us should get so busy that
we crowd out contemplation and praying.”
~President Spencer W. Kimball

What is it that brings a person to love the scriptures?

  1. Your question here brings an answer readily to mind! What helps a person love the scriptures is a personal connection to them. Something in the account of events, something in the doctrine - whichever it may be - just resonates with the soul and makes one feel as if God understands them. Because of the foundation of that feeling of being understood, one then begins a diligent search for counsel and direction.

I was reminded again of this very personal connection as I read 2 Nephi 4 this time around. I've been touched before by Nephi's lament, and drawn from it lessons and wisdom applicable to that time in my life. At this particular time it is poignant for a range of other reasons - and still it speaks to my heart and helps me in ways that are deep and meaningful. I'm so grateful for the scriptures!

  2. I love the contrast that Nephi gives to describe the lifestyles between the Righteous (Nephites) and the Wicked (Lamanites). At times in our lives do we not need to get up and get out of a situation (be it thoughts, activities, and/or places) where our values and beliefs are endangered? Who knows how our lives and the lives of others can be impacted by staying instead of getting up and leaving. Far more is at stake then we can imagine or even comprehend at the time when a choice is at hand.

    1. So true.
Sometimes don't you just want to know how the other choice would have turned out?!
