“An atonement was made. Ever and always it offers amnesty
from transgression and from death if we will but repent.
Repentance is the escape clause in it all. Repentance is the key
with which we can unlock the prison from inside. We hold that
key within our hands… Humbly I lay claim upon the atonement
of Christ. I find no shame in kneeling down in worship of
our Father and His Son.”
~ President Boyd K. Packer
What can the Lord do for you when you repent?
After today's reading I literally got chills when I heard on the news that there was a major quake in central Mexico this very day!
ReplyDeleteI love your question on the today's topic Elin! What can the Lord do for me when I repent? He literally saves me in every possible way. Just as the people in the Americas were saved from death, darkness and destruction by the light of His coming, that same light of mercy and forgiveness will save ME. I love 3 Nephi 9:13 where he asks, "...will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you?"
Every once in a while the power and reality of this truth and belief comes out of the fog of abstract doctrine ... and I just want to rise up and shout for joy and gratitude!
Reading this part of The Book has given me this gift today.
I have always loved this pleading of the Lord, "will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you?" It must have been extremely apparent the contrast of darkness and misery when the Savior came to the people who remained in the Americas. How humbled and totally changed was their way of life when they heard and believed on His teachings. I loved what President Packer says about the prison locked INSIDE US. Because that is what the chains of hell are and the battle I face today. It is inside of me. Who I want to be, and who I am now, and my natural man tendancies. Christ and his Spirit can unlock the best part of me, one turn at a time.
