Day 68

“These people all had basically the same experience. The war
was the same length for all people; yet out of the same
experience some were hardened and some were softened.
What made the difference?
It was what they thought of God and his Son.”
~ C. Max Caldwell

When you experience trials, do you feel your heart is hardened
or softened? What can you do to improve your thoughts of
Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ? How do you think this will
help to soften your heart?

  1. This is so key... to know the merits of one’s heart. It makes me think about when I took motorcycle riding lessons and how the instructor taught about the importance of looking ahead. Otherwise if we are looking at where we are instead of where we are going we do not see the obstacles ahead. Our perspectives need to change to be able to see the true horizon/path. That goes for our heart as well. It is hard sometimes to separate the emotions (reactions) of the heart from the motives (actions). I find that when my heart becomes hardened it is because I am only looking inward and thinking only on how the experience impacts me instead of looking outwards. Once I turn my sights to be only on me I lose sight of everything else and my perspective of what is truth and reality becomes skewed. I think that is why it is so important to have a Christ centered life. It is only through Him that we are able to have the purest of hearts and to be able to see our course is clear.
